I have severe clinical depression and have borderline traits. Some doctors even say I'm bipolar... I chose not to listen to those doctors. All the same I am mentally ill. That, by far, was the hardest part of having depression. Admiting to myself, coming out of denile, that I am mentally ill. In my English class we were discussing happiness and outside factors the that affect your happiness. I pointed out that your health, both mental and physical, have a large impact on whether or not you're happy. The conversation escalated and it came to a point just as a girl stated plainly that if you're mentally ill you don't know whether or not you're happy. I kept my mouth shut. I've been working on that. Many people may say that just because I have depression does not make me mentally ill. Depression: Psychology. A mental disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death. Also called clinical depression. Right there in the definition of depression, it states that it is a mental disorder. I have been put in a mental hospital for my depression. My depression makes me, obviously, mentally ill.
I have a friend with autism. Autism: A mental disorder of childhood characterized by marked deficits in communication and social interaction, preoccupation with fantasy, language impairment, and abnormal behavior, such as repetitive acts and excessive attachment to certain objects. It is usually associated with intellectual impairment. While the words "Mental disorder" appear in both definitions Autism is a mental imparment. It affects the ability to learn and socialize. It also impares the ability to read feelings in others.
I would like to point out, for the sake of proving the student in my english class wrong, that my autistic friend is VERY aware of whether or not he is happy and the I am very aware of whther or not I am happy. While my friend may not be able to tell if his mother or sister is happy by looking at their face he knows how he feels. While I may rarely feel truly happy I know how I feel.
So, Although I'm sure there are some mentally impared people out there that are not aware of whether or not they are happy, most are and most mentally ill people are as well. and while I realize this comment was said strictly out of ignorance I am insulted. And it made me unhappy. Just for the record, I could tell that i was unhappy.

4:20

International Drug day. Mainly refering to marijuana, the date 4/20 signals stoners everywhere to light up their pot and smoke. Originally it was simply the time, morning or afternoon, 4:20, but it later moved on to the date as well. This is the day when most high schools have about half their population missing. Either because kids are out getting stoned, were busted the night before for doing drugs, or were busted for doing drugs at school, schools have a serious problem with today's children and today's date. Should school's simply end this problem by giving children the day off? this way children won't be driving to school stoned. They also won't be doing drugs on campus. At the same time, kids will see it as a signal to smoke all day in dark allyways and by the railroad tracks. I know many stoners who weren't stoned today (so far) simply because they had to come to school. Schools help to prevent kids from doing drugs, at least during school hours. So what is to be done? Suspention for students that do not attend school on 4/20 without a doctors note, or a note signed and noterised by a parent or gardian. While this would make it more difficult for the parents it would also make lifesafer for the kids. Also, any child with blood shot eyes, sweating a lot, and seeming different then normal should be sent to the nurse for an examination. Their parents should then be notified that they should get their child drug tested. Also, what can parent's do to prevent their kids from involving themselves in criminal activity on 4/20? They can stay with their kids at all times. They can prevent their kids from going to places like Cheeba hut where everything only costs $4.20 today. They can watch they're children as if their children's future depends on it, because, it does.

Gay's and Gay Marrige

Define "gay": A person whose sexual orientation is to persons of the same sex. In today's society it is beginning to become acceptable to be gay. Many people classify themselves as bisexual or bicurious (not sure whether or not you're attracted to members of the same sex, but willing to find out) and think nothing of it.
I had a gay/bi friend explain to me what it was like to be gay and when she found out she was gay. She said that she had known she was bi since elementry school but when she met her current girlfriend there was just no going back. She said that it wasn't a matter of being gay or bi. It was simply a matter of being in love, and whether she found that love from someone of the same or of the opposite sex didn't really matter, as long as it was love. I've thought about this a great deal and I've come to realize that atleast every girl I know is bi, in the way that they wouldn't mind falling in love with someone of the same sex so long as it was love. It made me wonder what the big deal was with gay marriges. Why do people think it so wrong to be attracted to persons of the same sex if so many people are, in fact, impartial? Why do people have so much against being different when so many people strive to be just that?
During teenage years it is normal to rebel and to try and be different. It's normal to expirement with things such as drugs and booze. It's even normal to have your first sexual experience or at least to hear and know more about sex then parents would like. These days, it is even normal to know and be close with people who are gay and bi. Most teenagers accept it and think nothing of the fact that their best friend is dating someone of the same sex. Why should they care? why should anyone care? They shouldn't. Parents should take a hint from their teenage children and relax. Being gay doesn't make you different it just makes you you.
People need to accept gays and be more open minded. They need to not worry that their child may be gay or that their two male neighbors are married with kids. In fact, those kids grow up knowing how to accept different people and different lifestyles. Different strokes for different folks.

Ash wednesday

Today is ash wednesday. A day when kids come to school with dirt on their foreheads parading around the fact that they're christian. How nice. So what about the kids who aren't christian? the kids who feel left out because they don't have the mark of shmutz on their heads. Maybe we should just give the kids Ash Wednesday off. That way no one is excluded from the cristian's "in group". Let me point out where that's just plain wrong, and what should be done about it. One, the seperation of church and state. In private schools, let them have the day off. In public schools, it's against the constitution. Two, just because kids wash their face doesn't mean they're really any diferent from those who like to play in fire places. Why should kids be set apart for being clean on THIS particular day? Instead of allowing children to exclude their peers, we shoud teach the kids to include all of them. The children should not care that there is a lack of ash on some children's heads. It's discrimination that has continued past many movements to stop it. Three, if the children really want to, let them stay home! who cares if they missone day? While I don't agree with making it a holiday, give the kids a mental haelth day where they can come to school but aren't plenalized if they don't. This way, kids don't get teased, parents get time with their kids, kids get a day off, teachers can teach things outside the cariculum that the kids can enjoy.

Second Amendment

This post is about the second amendment. The right of the people to bear arms. Many people say that "liberals" are trying to take away the second amendment rights by instituting strict gun laws. They use arguments such as "guns don't kill people, people kill people" and "more children die in car accidents then from gun related injuries". There are many problems with these arguements. First, Guns don't kill people, People with guns kill people. People dropping guns, people holding guns, and people owning guns kill people. Saying "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is like saying "guns don't kill people, Gaping holes in vital organs kill people!" the problem is, the holes come from guns. Second, just because more children die from car accidents doesn't justify the fact that children die from guns. NO children should die from guns. It should be a rare or nonexistent problem. Third, the second amendment is an amendment. It amends the constitution and with out ever changing world is ment to be amended itself. If we stick to the exact same ideas aas our founding fathers we shall most certainly be stuck in that time period. The world will not evolve as it was meant to do. So what am i sugesting? if the country is so set on Not banning guns, so be it. Ban bullets.

My first words

These are my first words, not only on this blogging site but as a voice that will acctually be heard (I hope). My first order of business is the State of the Union. This pissed me off entirly because they cancelled the West Wing in order to show it. (Just kidding, I'm not that big an Idiot). Acctually my first order of business is abortion. This is for all the guys out there who may be reading this: even if the country entitles you to have an opinion on this matter, unless it is your wife who is concidering abortion, your opinion is useless and crap. You can not immagine what it is like to be raped and become pregnant with the rapist's baby. You can not imagine a decision that effects the life of an unborn child. While not tecnically a life yet it is simply potential life, and it is up to us, the women, to decide what happens to that potentially life. Many people say go through with the pregnancy and then give the baby up for adoption. There are amny problems with this idea. For one, Say the baby's father was a minority. Minority babies are very rarely adopted compared to white babies. Second, What if the pregnancy puts the mother and the child at risk? What if going through with the pregnancy would kill both the mother and the baby? Is it okay to have a abortion then? Third, What if the mother is a child? She's not ready to go through with the pain that comes from going through with a pregnancy. Fourth, What if the pregnancy is a result of inbreeding? The child may be deformed or have brain damage. The child maybe forced to live a life of pain and ridicule.

I am not for abortion as a form of birth control. I'm pro-choice. That means that the mother has a right to choose what happens to her and anything growing inside her. There are cases where an abortion is almost nessasary. If we ban abortion people will resort to their own forms. Forms that are dangerous not only to the baby, bt to the mother.
